Goodbye Lucky Dube

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Lucky Dube, the south African reggae artist, has left us. Lucky has been shot last october 18 in the Johannesburg suburb of Rosettenville. 5 men, professional carjackers have been arrested. Lucky was born in 1964 and in his career has recorded  22 albums in 3 languages, Zulu, Africaans and English, during a period of 25 years. He brung the socio-political messages associated with Jamaican reggae to the south african audience, during the years of the apartheid.  A rastafarian one of its kind:

“If Rastafarianism is about having dreadlocks, smoking marijuana and believing that Haile Selassie is God, then I am not Rastafarian.

But if it is about political, social and personal consciousness, then, yes, I’m,”

 Goodbye Lucky!

Germination of the cannabis seeds, some common mistakes

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Germinating cannabis seeds is a fairly easy task, we are sure that most of them can make it in the correct and appropriate way. For those who had problems in the past there are 3 main mistakes to avoid.

Too deep: this is a really common mistake, in this case the seed it’s several centimeters deep in the soil. If it will sproud (and mostly it won’t) it will quickly suffocate before it can even see the light. Remember to put the your seeds at 0.5 -1 cm deep in the soil, not deeper.

Too wet: there are many growers that are simply abondant with everything, but the cannabis plant doesn’t like too much water, even in this first stage of life.So once you have correctly positioned the seed at 0.5 - 1 cm deep in the soil, make the soil  nicely humid, but not wet. The seedling will need not only water, but also air: avoiding a surplus of water is the best way to ensure that the young plant can breath.

Soil too rich: this is not the moment to fertilize or use a pre-fertilized soil: most of the strains will love if you germinate them in a normal neuter soil (universal soil) and if you avoid to add fertilizers for the first 7-10 days.

Arnold Schwarzenegger says marijuana is not a drug

Monday, October 29th, 2007

California governor Schwarzenegger said last week, during an interview with GQ that marijuana is just a leaf. “That is not a drug. It’s a leaf,” Schwarzenegger told GQ. “My drug was pumping iron, trust me.” This discussion started  for a photo dated 1977, where the future california governor was a bodybuilder champion. In that pic Schwarzenegger was shown smoking a joint in the documentary “Pumping Iron.”

Iron Arnold has acknowledged using marijuana in the 1970s. The interview will be make public in the december issue of the popular magazine GQ, but we know already that it contains other interesting sentences about drugs and politicians: in particular Schwarzenegger has shown its point of view on it, saying that he prefers the politician that is able to take good decisions for his community, and that element like drug use should stay out of the evaluation of that politician.

Marijuana use falls in Britain

Friday, October 26th, 2007

A recent survey of the British Home Office shows that marijuana use falls from 25% in 2004 to 21% (still 1.3 million people) in 2007. The statistic is about young people between the ages of 16 and 24.  In 2004 marijuana has been reclassified and a new policy that we can define as “confiscate and warn”  has been adopted. In the mean time, the use of cocaine powder has grown in the adfult population, up to 2.6% of the population in 2007.

Cannabis cafe could reopen in West Sussex

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

The West Sussex Police is afraid that a cannabis cafè that has been raided already twice could reopen soon. The building is fortified and already during the last two raids (the last one was in the biginning of october) have already used a tractor. Now the barricades has ben reinforced. New reinforcements included razor wire and electric currents. The matter is, the police has suspects and is not certain that the building is used to smoke cannabis, and the reinforcements make everything more difficult. It’s a kind of a game. This is an example of the ridiculous results lead to us by the prohibitionism, a group of man in a “military style” building, a lot of cops outside, paid with public money and why? Bacause these men have decided to smoke the flowers  of a plant? For all the people that pay taxes in UK: happy with news like this one?

County in Montana stops marijuana arrests

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Missoula is a little county in Montana,USA. In november 2006 the population has approved an initiative asking law enforcement to ignore adult marijuana offenses. Now the County Attorney, that was an oppositor of this request, he has finally developed a policy to uphold the voters’ intentions. Now if you are catched in Missoula County with a little amount of marijuana or with parafernalia, and you are an adult, you are not going to be arrested.

“In the interest of compliance with the 2006 voter initiative on marijuana […] we are asking law enforcement officers to stop arresting individuals or writing and submitting tickets (with mandatory appearance dates) where the offense committed is solely possession of marijuana in misdemeanor amounts or possession of drug paraphernalia intended for use of marijuana […]”.

Without any doubt, a good news for a strongly prohibitionist country like US.
